What this app handles
Violin Quest is a child-focused practice tracker for iPad and iPhone. The app does not run any server and does not create user accounts.
What we keep on device:
- Profile names and chosen avatar.
- Practice session dates, durations, streaks, goals, and notes.
- Pitch counts and timing info used to calculate play score.
- Audio recordings you intentionally save in the app.
Audio handling
Microphone access is used only when a practice session is started. The app uses this audio to detect playing time and to offer replay playback.
- Audio files are stored on the same iPad/iPhone used by your child.
- Recordings are not uploaded to our servers.
- If you use iOS device backup, your iCloud backup includes the app's data — recordings included — the same as every other app. That backup is your own, on your Apple ID; we never see it.
Retention and deletion
By default, old recordings are removed after 14 days. You can change retention to 3, 7, 14, or 30 days in Parent Zone → Recordings.
You can delete one recording from within the app. You can also delete a profile, which removes that kid's sessions, recordings, and stats.
Data sharing and analytics
We do not share or sell user data, and we do not use analytics or ads.
Data leaves the device only when you manually export something:
- Practice export (minutes/goals/notes, no audio).
- Saved recording export (audio for a selected session).
Once exported through the iOS share sheet, that data is managed by your chosen destination (Files, email, AirDrop, Messages, etc.).
Children under 13
The app is designed for children ages 5 to 12 and collects no personal information on our servers. Because the app is local-first, there is no backend profile, device ID collection, ad tracking, location collection, or cross-app profiling.
Parental controls live in the app: you can review and delete a session, recording, or profile.
